Route Optimization is an optional feature. To find out more, or add this to your vWork account, please contact support@vworkapp.com. A member of the vWork Team will be in touch to discuss your requirements.
Alternatively, you can read all about it in the article What is Route Optimization?
In this article
This article explains how to publish or delete optimizations in View after you have reviewed them. Please read the article, Review and modify optimized routes, to find out what you can do to review and edit your optimizations.
Publishing your optimization is the third and final step in the route optimization process - the process you follow to create, review, and publish route optimizations in vWork. You can learn more about this process in the article: Overview: what you can do from the Route Optimization page.
This article also explains how to delete optimizations that you don’t want to publish.
Topics in this article:

- Delete an optimization from the optimization summary
- Delete a published optimization from the detailed view

Publish an optimization
When you publish a full optimization you send it to the Schedule and workers’ phones.
You publish an optimization from View. You can publish from both the optimization summary view, where all optimizations are listed, or from an optimization’s detailed view. Both of these methods are explained below.
Publish from the optimization summary view
To publish from the optimization summary:
- Select the optimization you want to publish from the list of optimizations.
💡 Tip: You may need to use the state and time filters to find the optimization you want. - Click the publish button.
In this example, we are publishing Optimization 202665 found at the top of the optimization summary. - When the optimization is published its status changes to Published.
🔔 Note: The publish button is no longer available for selection next to the published optimization.
Publish an optimization from the detailed view
You can also publish the optimization from within the detailed view of that optimization.
To publish from the detailed view:
- Select the optimization from Overview and double click to open it.
- Click the publish button next to Publish All in the top right corner of the overview.
- All jobs are published to the assigned workers. The publish buttons are greyed out and no longer available for selection. The color of all jobs in the optimization changed to blue to show they are now published and assigned to workers.
🔔 Note: The map will also show the routes as published. The dotted route lines change to solid lines.
Publish a single route from an optimization
You can also publish a single route from an optimization. You do this in the detailed view of the optimization.
To publish a single route:
- Click the publish button on the line for the route you want to publish. In this example, we are publishing the optimized route for Truck 2.
- All jobs are published to the assigned worker for the route. The publish button is greyed out for this route and is no longer available for selection. The color of the jobs on the route changes to blue to show they are now published and assigned to the selected worker.
Delete an optimization or route in an optimization
You can delete an entire unpublished, partially published, or fully published optimization from View. An entire optimization can be deleted from both the optimization summary and from the detailed view of the optimization. You can also delete a single route from an optimization without deleting the entire optimization. You need to treat jobs differently if you want to use them in another optimization depending on if you had published to optimization or not before you deleted it. This is explained in the topics below.
Delete an optimization from the optimization summary
You can delete optimizations that are in any state (Publish, Unpublish, or Partially Published) from the optimization summary view in the View stage.
To delete an optimization from the optimization summary:
- Select the optimization from the optimization summary.
🔔 Note: You may need to change the time and state filters to find the optimization you want to delete. - Click the delete button on the line for this optimization.
In this example, we are deleting the published optimization 202677. - If the optimization is published a message shows asking if you are sure you want to delete this optimization and unpublish jobs in this optimization from the workers’ phones.
You can click to insert a checkmark next to the message: Also unpublish jobs in this optimization from workers’ phones if you want to remove the jobs from workers' phones.
Click Yes to confirm you want to proceed.
The optimization is removed from the optimization summary and all jobs are removed from the optimization and become available for selection in the Create stage.
🔔 Note: When a job is saved with a worker and start-time assigned before it is optimized, and the optimization it is is deleted, the job:
- reverts back to the original start-time
- becomes unassigned; the original worker saved with the job is removed.
Oops! I didn’t unpublish jobs from workers’ phones - what happens now?
- Jobs remain saved to the schedule and published on workers' phones with the start times assigned by the optimization.
- If you want to reoptimize these jobs you have two options. You can remove the assigned workers from the jobs so the jobs show up as unassigned on the optimization map, or you can search on the optimization Map for Jobs with the status of assigned then use the Ignore Planned Workers option when configuring the optimization.
- If you don’t want to use the start times saved with the jobs you can remove the start times before you configure jobs into an optimization, or choose the ignore start-times option when you configure the optimization.
Delete a published optimization from the detailed view
The process to delete a published optimization from the detailed view of the optimization is the same as deleting it from the optimization summary except the delete button is in a different location.
The outcome is also the same - all optimized jobs are removed from the optimization and become available for selection in the Create stage - provided you chose to unpublish all jobs from worker’s phones when this option was presented to you.
To delete a published optimization in the detailed view for the optimization:
- Select the optimization you want to delete in the Overview and open the optimization’s details page.
- Click the delete button next to the Publish All button to delete the optimization.
A message shows asking if you are sure you want to delete this optimization and unpublish jobs in this optimization from the workers’ phones. - Click to insert a checkmark next to the message: Also unpublish jobs in this optimization from workers’ phones.
Click Yes to confirm you want to proceed.
Delete a single route from a published optimization
If you need to delete a single route from a published optimization (for example, if the worker assigned can’t make their shift and you need to reschedule jobs to another worker), you can delete a single optimized route without deleting the full published optimization. This can only be done in the detailed view for the optimization.
To delete a single optimized route in an optimization:
- Select the optimization you want to delete the route from to open the detailed view for the optimization.
- Click the delete button on the line of the route you want to delete.
In this example, we are deleting the optimized route for Truck 4.
A message shows asking if you want to remove this worker and unpublish their jobs from this optimization. - Click Yes to confirm you want to proceed.
The worker’s route is removed from the optimization.
Caution: Jobs remain assigned to the worker with scheduled start times also saved against each job. To include the jobs in a new optimization you must either remove the assigned worker and start times from the jobs, or search for assigned jobs on the optimization map and then choose Ignore Planned Workers in the Optimization configuration.
Delete an unpublished optimization from the detailed view
When you delete an unpublished optimization the jobs are removed from the optimization and then become available for you to select in a new optimization configuration on the Create stage.
To delete an unpublished optimization from the detailed view for the optimization:
- Click the delete button next to the Publish All button to delete the optimization.
A message shows asking if you want to delete this optimization. - Click Yes to confirm you want to proceed.
The Jobs are removed from the optimization and become available for selection in the Create stage.
💡 Tip: If the jobs don’t show up in the Create stage immediately after you delete the optimization, refresh your screen.
Delete a single route from an unpublished optimization
If you like the overall optimization but want to make changes to a single route, it is often easiest to delete only that optimized route and then re-configure it with the changes you want to make as a new optimization. You can only delete a single route from the detailed view of the optimization.
To delete a single optimized route in an optimization:
- Select the optimization you want to delete the route from in the optimization summary and open the detailed view for the optimization.
- Click the delete button on the line of the route you want to delete.
In this example, we are deleting the optimized route for Van 1.
A message shows asking if you want to remove this worker and unpublish their jobs from this optimization. - Click Yes to confirm you want to proceed.
The worker and their optimized jobs are removed from the optimization and become available for selection in the Create stage.
Congratulations! You have published an optimization.
