How do I create a QR Code to log in to the vWork Mobile App?

What is QR code scanning?

Qr code and barcode scanning systems help businesses track an amazing amount of information which, in turn, increases productivity and efficiency. You can improve your organization's process (saving time and money) by having your mobile workers quickly scan a QR code to log in to the vWork Mobile app.

Why log in with a QR code?

Most of our customers assign jobs to people, but some assign work to a specific vehicle and it doesn't matter who is driving.  In this case, you can either mount a phone permanently in each vehicle and keep it logged into vWork, or make the driver use their own phone and re-login with the vehicle's details whenever they start driving it.

When you create a QR code for a vehicle this enables workers who drive multiple vehicles to quickly log in and see all the jobs assigned to the vehicle they are currently driving.  Drivers can easily change between vehicles and complete the jobs assigned to those vehicles. The QR code instantly logs the driver in with the vehicle's vWork User details. No emails or passwords are needed which makes things simpler for the driver and the dispatcher.

Both the iPhone and Android mobile apps have an area on the Login Screen to enable a user to log in using a QR code. On iPhone, it is a field that says Scan barcode to login, and on Android, it is a QR code Icon.

To set up a QR code:

  1. Ensure that each one of your vehicles has an email and password set up. You do this in Settings>Users>Users. Make a note of the email and password - you need this when you create the barcode.
  2. There are several websites that enable you to create aQR code for free. You can use your preferred website or this one: https://www.barcodesinc.com/generator/qr/
  3. Type the information as shown below into the field Text to embed in QR Code:

         {    "email":"insert your email address here","password":"insert your password here"}

  4. Click the Create QR Code button. You will see an image that looks similar to this:

  5. Save the image to your computer for later use or print it out, laminate it, and stick it to the dashboard of the vehicle.

Note: If the vehicle's email address or password is changed you will need to generate a new QR Code for the vehicle with the new email or password.

Log in on iPhone with a QR Code

  1. Open the vWork mobile app.
  2. Tap the Scan barcode to login bar.

  3. Hold the scanner over the QR code and wait for it to scan.
  4. The mobile app will open on the Job List page.

Log in on Android with a QR code

  1. Open the vWork mobile app.
  2. Tap the QR Code icon mceclip2.png.

  3. Hold the scanner over the QR code and wait for it to scan. (Some phones need to be turned sideways to scan the code correctly.)
  4. The mobile app will open on the Job List page.
