It's important you set up your Android vWork mobile app so that it works in a way that fits with the jobs you do and your work environment. You can adjust the default settings in the vWork mobile app Settings menu.
🔔 Note: Some vWork settings for the mobile app are set in your business's vWork account by the vWork Administrator. These relate to the types of tasks you have permission to perform in the app. You can't change these settings in the mobile app.
Open the Settings screen
You open the 'Settings' menu from the main menu - found in the red banner on the 'Jobs' screen.
To open the settings:
- In the Jobs screen, tap to open the main menu.
- Tap Settings to open the Settings screen.
Settings categories
The vWork Android app settings are grouped into five categories:
In this article, we explain how to get the most from the Interface settings. You can read about the other setting categories by clicking the topic links above.
In this article
'Interface' settings change how you interact with the screens and sounds on your Android device when using vWork, and how you manage photos. These are the settings you are most likely to customize to meet your specific requirements. Some of these settings should be considered along with your Android device settings.
The 'Interface' settings are grouped under four headings. In this article, we explain each of these groupings as a topic.
Topics include:
- Sleep settings
- Attachments settings
- Notifications settings
- Your Android device notification settings
- Display settings
- Your Android device notification settings
Click a topic from the topic list above to go to that topic. You can return to this topic list by clicking this icon:
Sleep settings
Prevent Sleep
There is one setting in the Sleep grouping - Prevent Sleep.
When Prevent Sleep is enabled, this keeps the vWork mobile app open and the screen on while you are using the vWork app. This overrides the Android device settings that put your device to sleep when it hasn't been used for a while.
'Prevent Sleep' is enabled by default (it has a checkmark in the checkbox). By keeping the app open you are able to view your upcoming jobs and navigate through job screens without the screen timing out.
When this setting is enabled, your phone won't go to sleep while the vWork app is open.
🔔 Note: 'Prevent Sleep' will drain your battery faster than normal when it is enabled.
Attachments settings
Keep vWork images on your phone
There is one setting in the Attachments grouping - Keep vWork images on your phone.
When Keep vWork images on your phone is enabled, photos you capture in Image fields are automatically saved in the photo library on your phone.
This setting is enabled by default (it has a checkmark in the checkbox). If you turn it off, vWork will upload images to vWork but won't save the photos in your photo library on your Android device.
You may wish to disable this setting if you are using a personal mobile device to run your vWork app, or if you have limited storage on your mobile device. If you do disable it you won't be able to use images taken in the vWork app at a later date.
Notifications settings
There are five Notifications settings in this grouping. We explain each setting in the order they show on the screen.
- Job notifications
- Extended job notifications
- Insistent notifications
- Play Sound and Vibrate settings
💡Tip: The behavior of vWork notifications is affected by the 'Notifications' settings set in the Android device settings for the vWork app. Android device settings will override in-app settings. If you disable notifications for vWork in the Android settings - regardless of the options you choose in the vWork app - you won't receive notifications. At the end of this article, we explain how to set the Android settings for notifications. You should review these device settings when you review the vWork notification settings described here.
Job notifications
Job notifications notify you when a new job is published on your Jobs screen. This setting is enabled by default (it has a checkmark in the checkbox).
When Job notifications is enabled, a new job published to your vWork mobile app triggers a notification in the app that looks like this.
Extended job notifications
Extended job notifications notify you when a change is made to any job on your Jobs screen. This setting is enabled by default (it has a checkmark in the checkbox).
If you find you are getting too many job notifications you may want to disable this setting, but be aware that you won't be notified of changes to jobs when this setting is disabled.
Insistent notifications
Insistent notifications is a useful setting to enable if you find you are not hearing or seeing vWork notifications and it is important that you do.
This is a sound and vibration setting. It is linked to all vWork notifications sent to your mobile app. It plays a sound and (if enabled in your device settings) vibrates your device at regular intervals until you acknowledge a vWork notification that you have received. This setting is disabled by default.
Play sound and Vibrate settings
Play sound and Vibrate are linked to all vWork notifications sent to your mobile app. If notification sounds and vibrations are enabled in the vWork app they are activated when a new notifiable event happens in the vWork app. These settings are enabled by default.
Display settings
There are three Display settings in this grouping. We explain each setting in the order it shows on the screen.
Auto collapse field sections
Auto collapse field sections helps you to manage sections in the 'Fields' screen. When you have several sections this setting will automatically collapse an open section when you tap another field section heading. This setting is enabled by default.
Job complete goes to Jobs list
Job complete goes to Jobs list automatically returns you to the 'Jobs' screen when you complete the final step for a job. This is useful when you have many jobs of short duration, such as jobs on a delivery route. The setting is disabled by default.
Add timestamp to images
Add timestamp to images is useful for Proof of Delivery, Proof of Condition, and for job audits. When enabled, the time and date are added to photos captured in the 'Fields' screen in an Image field. This setting is disabled by default.
Your Android device notification settings
