It's important you set up your iOS vWork mobile app so that it works in a way that fits with the jobs you do and your work environment. You can adjust the default settings in the Settings menu.
Note: Some vWork settings for the mobile app are set in your business's vWork account by the vWork Administrator. These relate to the types of tasks you have permission to perform in the app. You can't change these settings in the mobile app.
Open the Settings screen
You open the Settings menu from the main menu - found in the red banner on the Jobs screen.
To open the settings:
- In the Jobs screen, tap to open the main menu.
- Tap Settings to open the Settings screen.

When is my location tracked in vWork?
đź”” Important:
- vWork only tracks your location when you are logged in to the vWork app and the time is within the Operating Hours you have set in your vWork mobile app settings.
- Even when the vWork app location tracking settings are set to Always you cannot be tracked outside your set operating hours when you are logged out of the vWork app. See the topics later in this article about Location tracking and Operating hours for more information.
Location tracking
The Location tracking setting opens iOS settings for the vWork app. This is where you enable the level of location tracking that applies when you are logged in and using the vWork mobile app.
Note: When you first install vWork you are asked when you would like your location tracked. We recommend you set this to Always.
Update Location tracking settings
To update location tracking when using the vWork app:
- Tap Location tracking.
- Tap Update Tracking Settings.
- Tap Location.
Here you can choose to set when your location is tracked from the iOS options. - We recommend that you set the Allow Tracking Access option to Always and that you toggle the Precise Location to on (green).
âť— Caution: We recommend that you avoid using Never as an option.
Your mobile device needs Location Tracking turned on to enable many vWork features such as location-specific Alerts like the ETA Alert, invoicing for distance traveled, and to make it easier for your dispatcher to assign you jobs near your current location.
Accuracy
Accuracy determines how accurate the location data shared with us is to the actual physical location of the device. A good location is accurate to within a few meters, a poor location may only be accurate to within 1 to 2 kilometers.
The Accuracy setting gives you three options to select from:
- Automatic - this switches the source of your iOS device location data between GPS when your device is plugged in and charging, and Cellular when it is unplugged and running on battery alone. Automatic is the default setting.
- GPS - this gives the best accuracy but can deplete the device's battery faster than if it was set to Automatic or Cellular. It is usually accurate to within a few meters.
- Cellular - This mostly uses the cellular network location, but will sometimes use GPS when cellular is not available. It is not as accurate as GPS but usually provides accuracy within 50 meters of the device's actual location when in a populated area. It is the best option for longer battery life.
Update the Accuracy setting
To select an Accuracy setting:
- Tap Accuracy.
- Tap to select the accuracy option you prefer from the three options described above.
Poll every
The Poll every setting specifies when your iPhone or iPad sends us your location. This is set to happen at regular distance intervals. It uses small amounts of data to connect with the cellular network. In vWork you can select different distances that your iPhone or iPad will poll. The options are:
- 50 meters
- 250 meters - the default setting
- 500 meters
- 1 kilometer.
Shorter polling distances use more data.
Update polling
To change how often your iPhone or iPad polls when you are logged in to vWork:
- Tap Poll every.
- Tap to select a polling distance from the listed options.
Operating hours
Operating hours determine the days and hours that your location is tracked when you are using the vWork app. Your iPhone or iPad is not tracked outside the working hours that you set in your operating hours settings.
You can choose to have your location tracked for every day of the week or set days of the week, and All Day or between set hours.
Update Operating Hours
To set your Operating Hours:
- Tap Operating hours to open the Operating Hours screen.
- To set your location so that it is tracked 24 hours a day in vWork, tap to toggle All Day on (Green). You can tap it again to turn this off and then choose specific hours and days.
- When All Day is toggled on (Green) your location is tracked all day for the days that you select.
When All Day is toggled off (Grey) your location is tracked only in the times you select for the Start Time and End Time fields.
- When All Day is toggled on (Green) your location is tracked all day for the days that you select.
- Tap the word 'Days' to open a screen where you select the days that your operating hours apply to. Your day selection here overrides the Everyday selection in the All Day time setting above. Provided the All Day setting is toggled to on, your operating hours are set to all day only for the days that you select in this setting.
- A checkmark indicates a day is selected. Tap a day to add or remove a checkmark.
- At least one day must be selected.
- To set a Start Time and End Time, ensure the All Day time setting toggle is toggled to off (Grey).
This Start Time and End Time default to the operating hours set in the vWork account settings by your vWork Administrator. You can change these hours if your working hours are different from the default operating hours.
- To change the Start Time tap Start Time to display the pre-set company start time in the lower half of the screen. Tap the time to open a selection dial.
- Drag the hours and the minutes on the selection dial to select a new start time, then tap the time to confirm your selection. The new time is displayed in the Start Time field.
- Tap in the red banner to return to the Settings screen. Next, tap Operating Hours again to check your operating hours settings.
- To change the Start Time tap Start Time to display the pre-set company start time in the lower half of the screen. Tap the time to open a selection dial.
- To change the End Time repeat the same steps as used to set the Start Time but tap to select End Time instead.
Note: It is not possible to select different times for different days.
