What is an active job?
These are the jobs displayed in the Schedule. Basically, an active job is any job that is not completed or canceled.
Is there a limit?
We don't set a hard limit on the number of active jobs you can have.
However, more jobs create more data to load and display every time you view the schedule. A lot of jobs can slow the refresh rate of the Schedule and Jobs list.
How many can I have then?
If you have an older computer or a slow Internet connection, you should try and keep your active jobs under 500.
Even with a modern computer and a decent internet connection, you may start seeing performance slowing down when you get over 1000 active jobs.
Please note, that the complexity of your template can affect this performance as well. Jobs with a dozen custom fields load faster than jobs with 200 custom fields.
What can I do if I have more?
Consider Groups
If you have many active jobs and they are slowing the refresh rate for vWork, please contact us to discuss how you can use Groups to improve your performance.
Thin clients vs Rich clients
Thin clients provide poorer performance in comparison to rich clients. If you are operating in a thin client environment, it may be worth investing in a rich client for your dispatchers.
