Types of user permissions
Permissions are assigned to a user in their user profile through the User Management page. You can assign users with Web App Permissions and Mobile Permissions.
🔔 Note: We explain how to assign user permissions the support articles:
- Web App Permissions: user permissions for Admins and Dispatchers
- Mobile Permissions: permissions for using the vWork mobile app.
The user permissions you assign to a user depends on their role. The three main roles in vWork are:
- Administrator (Admin)
- Dispatcher
- Mobile worker (worker).
Some users may combine some aspects of each of these roles in the work they do within your organization. You can assign a combination of these permissions from each of these roles to tailor how a specific user interacts with vWork.
Administrator (Admin)
Admin permissions are assigned under the Web App Permissions. An Admin can access all of vWork's settings in the Settings tab. This is the hub for performing various administrative tasks, including setting up users, creating templates, and modifying how vWork behaves. Admins have the ability to change their own and other user permissions and perform every activity using the vWork web app.
The first user set up in vWork always has full Admin permissions. Subsequent Admins only have access to vWork Settings until other user permissions are added to their user profile, either at the time their user profile is created or, they can add these themselves as they need to use different vWork functions. It's a good idea to limit users with the Admin permission to a small number of trusted team members.
Dispatcher
Dispatcher permissions are assigned under the Web App Permissions. Dispatchers are assigned permissions that enable them to manage jobs, mobile workers, customers, messages and alerts using the vWork web app. The level of access and which of these functions are Dispatcher will be able to use are all controlled by the user permissions assigned to them.
Worker
Worker permissions are assigned under the Mobile Permissions. Mobile Permissions enable mobile workers to complete jobs through the vWork mobile app. They also determine if a vWork mobile app user can edit job information, create new jobs, or assign or reassign jobs to other mobile app users through the vWork mobile app.
Permission levels
In addition to assigning users permissions, for some permissions you can also set different levels of access to the selected permission. You can give users 'full' access to a permission, meaning they can do everything that permission allows, or you can give them 'read only' access which lets them view the information associated with the permission but not make changes to that information.
We have more information on permission levels in the article, User permission levels for Web App and Mobile Permissions.
Other settings that change what permissions can do
Permissions for using both the web app and the mobile app can also be modified to suit your unique circumstance in the vWork Settings.
The General settings can change some aspects of how Admins and Dispatchers create and manage jobs. You can also specify how jobs are shared with mobile workers and how mobile workers can shift on and off through the mobile app. You can learn more about these settings in the article, Customize your vWork account's General Settings.
The Finance settings can change how a mobile worker interacts with invoices in the mobile app when this permission is enabled for them in their user profile. You can learn more about these settings in the article, What can mobile workers change on an invoice?
