In this article
This article explains how to manage when the vWork app keeps crashing on your Android mobile device.
Follow these steps in order:
- Sync the vWork app with the vWork server - you must do this first
- Restart your device
- Bump the last piece of job information you added
- Sign out of vWork then restart your device
- Reinstall the vWork app
- Send a support request (optional)
We explain each step below. Click the step link to go straight to that step. You can return to this list of steps by clicking this icon:
Sync the vWork app with the vWork server
❗ Important: Before you log out of vWork make sure you have synced your job information with the vWork server. Job information that isn't synced when you log out is lost and will need to be recaptured.
The steps below briefly explain how to sync your vWork app with the server. If you want more detailed instructions please read the article, Android: sync your job information from the vWork mobile app with the vWork server.
💡 Tip: You must have a data connection enabled and turned on to sync job data. This can be Wi-Fi or mobile data.
To sync your job information with the vWork server:
- In the Jobs screen tap in the red banner to open the menu.
- Tap Sync Activity to see if you have any pending job updates.
💡 Tip: A green dot next to the 'Sync Activity' menu item indicates your job data is synced with the vWork server. - If you don't have any data to sync then tap Done and proceed with restarting your device.
- If you have pending job updates then tap Done and open the menu again. Tap Refresh to sync your jobs with the vWork server.
- If the data won't sync then restart your device without logging out. How to restart is explained in the next topic.
Restart your device
- Restart your device without logging out of vWork:
- Hold down the power button on your device then tap to select Restart.
This powers off your phone and then restarts it.
This is the best first step if data isn't syncing with our server. When you stay logged in to vWork, the job data captured that hasn't synced remains on your mobile device even when you restart the device.
If restarting without signing out of the mobile app doesn't work then proceed to the next step.
- Hold down the power button on your device then tap to select Restart.
Bump the last piece of job information you added
Bump deletes the last piece of data you added to a job (e.g., a step completion, a photo or signature you have captured, a custom field you completed). Sometimes the last piece of data added has a sync error and prevents other job information from syncing. This may be all that is required to sync the remaining job data.
💡 Tip: Before attempting to bump trying restarting your device without logging out of the app. This is the safest way of preserving unsynced job information.
To 'bump' the last piece of information you added to a job:
- In the Jobs screen tap in the red banner to open the menu.
- Tap Sync Activity to open the sync activity screen.
- At the bottom of the screen tap 'Bump'.
- Re-enter the last bit of job information you captured for the job and review the remaining job information to make sure it shows what you expect it to.
Log out of vWork then restart your device
❗ Important: You should not try this until you have attempted the other methods given above. You will lose job information that hasn't synced with the vWork server when you log out. You or your dispatcher will need to re-enter lost job information after completing this method.
- Sync your device (see above) and sign out of the vWork app.
To log out of the vWork app:
- In the Jobs screen tap in the red banner to open the menu.
- Tap Log out to open the 'Log Out' dialogue box.
- Confirm that you want to log out of vWork by tapping LOG OUT. You are logged out of vWork and presented with the Login screen.
- In the Jobs screen tap in the red banner to open the menu.
- Restart your device:
- Hold down the power button on your device then tap to select Restart.
This powers off your phone and then restarts it.
- Hold down the power button on your device then tap to select Restart.
- Log in to the vWork app.
- When your phone restarts open vWork and log in through the Login screen.
If the app continues to crash proceed to the next option: reinstall the vWork app.
Reinstall the vWork app
If logging out and restarting your device didn't fix the problem, then the next step is to perform a clean re-installation of vWork from Google Play.
To reinstall vWork:
- Sync your jobs with the vWork server and log out of vWork following the instructions given above.
- Open the Google Play app on your device.
- Search for vWork.
- Click Uninstall.
- Restart your Android device following the instructions above.
- Reinstall the vWork mobile app and sign back in. If you need help with this, please see the article, Android: Download the vWork Android app
💡 Tip: After reinstalling the vWork app we recommend you check your Android device settings for vWork to make sure photos, notifications and location tracking work as you want them to. Also check the vWork settings accessed from the vWork menu to change the defaults to meet your preferences.
Send a support request (optional)
If the app continues to crash after trying these steps, please get in touch with support@vworkapp.com.
You can find out how to send a Support Request email through the vWork app in this article, Android: Send a vWork Support Request from your Android mobile device.
When you send a Support Request through vWork a log of your mobile device settings is included in the email. This can help us to diagnose the problem.
